Understanding Lining & Light Control

"Lining" refers to an extra layer of fabric sewn to the back of a curtain panel. It's a useful concept to understand when choosing fabric weight and color, even though it's not yet a separate option in our configurator.

  • Unlined - just the face fabric. Lets in the most light and shows the truest color and texture of a sheer or semi-sheer fabric, with the least privacy after dark.
  • Light-filtering / privacy lining - softens and diffuses incoming light and adds daytime privacy, while still letting light through.
  • Blackout lining - blocks the large majority of light, best for bedrooms, nurseries, and home theaters.
  • Thermal / interlining - adds a middle layer for extra insulation against heat, cold, and outside noise, on top of whatever light control the lining provides.

Our current fabrics like Slate are semi-sheer by design, filtering daylight into a soft, even glow while keeping the room from feeling exposed. If you need a fully room-darkening option for a specific room, message us on WhatsApp and we'll let you know what's available.
